on Philae Triumphant

In a previous week, I discussed how all space probes must end. Fortunately, the story is a lot happier for the Philae lander, because it actually did wake up again once it started getting enough sunlight. So we WILL get more than 68 hours of data from the lander…

I have to admit I didn’t think that would happen. It’s not entirely unprecedented for spacecraft to wake up again (such as the International Sun-Earth Explorer, which successfully woke up after a 30 year nap) but it’s incredibly cool when it does. Perhaps all the opportunities missed with Philae will no longer be missed.

It’s a good day.
